A Description Of A Situation In Which I Felt I Was Treated Unfairly Or Not Given An Opportunity I Deserved Essay Examples
There are several situations one’s lifetime when they feel they are not treated with fairness or are denied an opportunity that they deserve out of commitment and hard work. There could be a number of reasons for this. However, it is the way an individual responds or reacts to such situations that determines whether or not things will improve in future so that one may get what they deserve in life. This, below, is a personal story in which I was a victim of a similar fateful and disillusioning situation.
For some time now, I have been a fervent soccer player great interest and enthusiasm in every aspect of the game. The first time when my travel team went for tryouts after a long while, I took the opportunity to impress my coach so that I could earn myself a position as a starting goalkeeper for the team. After I confirmed with the coach Carlos about this, I began to spend most of my time and energy training for the whole summer. However, even before the practice could begin in earnest, the coach quit his job with the team and a new strange coach named David replaced him. It is at this point in time that things started taking a wrong turn for me.
After a few weeks of training and practicing with the new coach David, he brought with him a new goalkeeper whom he had known for years. This meant that I automatically lost my position of being the team’s only goalkeeper as I found out that I had to fight to keep my position on the team line up. Besides this, I also came to realize that I was never truly part of the team since even my team mates began to lose touch with me and rarely talked to me. In spite of trying very hard to prove my capability, I was met with disappointment by being left on the bench almost every time.
I began contemplating whether or not it was time to desert the team, since no matter what I tried to do; neither the coach nor the team would trust or believe me anymore. My hopes of ever earning a first place in the team were dwindling so fast. In response to this agony and dilemma, I decide to talk to the coach but I was only met with harsh statement from him. He told me that he was simply doing what to him was right to the team. After much thought, reflection and soul-searching, I decided to leave the team since I felt y opportunity to become one of the greatest goalkeepers ever known would go down the drains if I stayed and continued ‘warming the bench’ and no one believing in me. I tend to think all these happened to me not because I was incapable or that I did not dedicate myself I n trying, but because Coach David never liked to see me become who I wished to be.
I therefore chose to dedicate my time to college and scholarship applications as I was convinced that this was more important than wasting time someone who refused to believe in me and appreciate my efforts by incessantly pulling me down and pouring cold water on me. However, I never gave up on soccer for I am currently playing as the main goalkeeper for my high school team and I will stop at nothing in the quest to achieve my dreams and interests. And so my response to coach David’s frustrating treatment seemed to have borne fruits and improved my situation. As Vince Lombard once opined, ‘winners never quit, and quitters never win’, and so never will I quit or surrender too no matter who or what stands on my way to stardom and self-actualization.
