In this article, Loehle Craig focuses on a discussion that provides various ways through, which scientific creativity may be promoted. Loehle acknowledges the fact that the current pressures placed upon scientists by the society have opposed creativity. He provides various steps that one should consider when he/she aspires to perform a scientific research. This process begins with choosing a problem; he asserts that in any scientific research, choosing a problem is usually the foundation of the process. In his discussion he notes that scientists are not distinguished by their technical skills, but by the interesting topics or subjects they select.
The other main issue discussed in this article is how to be creative, Loehole is of the view that being creative does not require certain in-born qualities or skills, but can also be achieved through training. He posits that one of the challenges that have hindered creativity in the current generation is the fact that the educational system provides students/learners with single fixed opportunities for answering questions rather than providing opportunities for exploratory learning. According to Loehle, one of the most important strategies that can be employed for one to be creative is developing work habits. This basically involves the willingness to spend extended periods of time to explore ideas.
Primary points that Critique Observation in the Article
I believe that social pressures placed upon scientists are major caused by emergence of certain social challenges, as such; they promote creative thinking for purposes of solving identified challenges. Therefore, social pressures cannot be regarded as barriers to creativity, but rather triggers of creativity.
Despite the fact that the current educational system provides single and strict platforms of answering questions, it cannot be considered a barrier to creativity. This is mainly as a result of the fact that the society is governed by rules and regulations and the education system is just a subject to these rules.
