A Letter To Captain Hook From Sherlock Holmes Essay Examples
Dear Captain Hook,
I have received a well-preserved package in the mail of which I am certain you will be interested. With modern surgical techniques, your hook may no longer be required, if you catch my drift. Now, I know that in our past, we have appeared to be two men who are dramatically different. You have been portrayed as the archenemy of an innocent such as Peter Pan, whereas I have solved, with my trusty assistant Doctor Watson, numerous capital crimes that law-breaking men such as yourself commit. In point of fact, we are not all that different, however. You are intelligent, well-educated, and extremely verbose. I admire those qualities in a man, as they are quite comparable to my own qualities of mind and temperament. Nonetheless, you have a ruthless nature, and of course, as the world's most-skilled detective, one who has even outwitted Scotland Yard, I am refined and clever. However, there is a certain amount of ruthlessness in my nature when I am investigating a crime. This is due to the fact that I must force myself to think like a thug, a miscreant -- in short, I have had to think like you many times during my long career of catching criminals. So, in essence, we are not all that different. However, to others, we are markedly contrasting. You appear as a ruffian, and I appear as a dashing, civilized man of the world. When you drink, you settle for cheap rum. When I drink, I demand the best cognac of the house. You prefer the mess hall on a pirate ship, whereas I would never be considered one of your scalliwag by one of your malodorous colleagues on the High Seas. I must also admonish you to leave Peter Pan alone. Oh yes, by the way, the box I have received contains the mangled remains of your hand, sent by a particular crocodile. Again, I have tested your powers of deduction, and evidently you have decidedly failed to exercise them.
