The advancements in medical science all over the globe have enabled the doctors to kill the fetus inside the mother’s womb, so that the childbirth can be done away with. This process of killing of the fetus is known as abortion. Although abortion rates across the society show that many women opt for killing the fetus, there has to be a well-organized debate to determine if abortion is a correct thing for human nature. I believe abortion should be illegal because it is the murder of an innocent child, adoption is possible alternative to abortion, and abortion will lead to health complications to women in the future.
An elucidation of the matter in context would make it clear to one and all how wrong it is to go for abortion. The primary thing about abortion is that it kills the child in the womb of the mother. This is nothing less than a murder. Killing a human would involve an act of criminality, brutality and immorality of nature. If a born child or a grown up man is murdered by anyone that is a crime in the eyes of law since the person is inhumanly put to death by someone else.
This criminal offence is one of the most heinous ones that get punished harshly all over the world. Likewise, the killing of the fetus is also an act of putting the life to an end by someone else. Since humans are not the creators of life, they have no right whatsoever to end a life on their own. “The anti-abortion argument wants to equate the medical termination of a pregnancy with murder, and to have doctors who perform abortions treated as serial-killers.” (Mackay)
The deliberate termination of pregnancy is done during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy of the mother. One has to keep in mind that currently it is legal to get an abortion done in California if the process is conducted by a certified physician. However, more than being a good decision, this is a crime on the part of the people executing the process.
One cannot simply forget the fact that we are humans. It is the basic trait of humanity to nurture and protect life, rather than killing one deliberately. Many reasons can be cited in the context to argue that abortion should be made illegal in the nation of United States of America.
No court of law categorizes murder. One would not find different punishments for a more heinous murder, or a murder where the victim did not get much pain. Thus, the act of murder is only gauged by one and all as a crime. Under such a circumstance, one needs to pose the question if the murder of an innocent soul can be exempted in the eyes of morality and conscience of a person of the law.
One cannot simply forget or ignore the fact that the fetus is a human being. This fetus is the wonderful creation of the almighty. It has a heart that beats, and as it grows inside the womb, it develops to take human form. If a person chooses to abort the fetus, it is nothing different that a murder of an innocent life.
Scientific advancements and the fragmented realities of the post-modern era cannot make us inhuman to the extent that we undermine the human conscience or morality to commit the murder of an innocent life that is yet to see the light of the day. One should think of the vast options that await the fetus after birth. The child can grow up to be a successful sportsman, politician, businessman, artist, and so on. It is not fair at all on the part of the humans to strip the child off his right to live and experience the world around. The fetus has the right to live, although it does not have the voice to speak about its wish or right.
One cannot simply forget the fact that abortion is not an impulsive act. Abortion is a premeditated thing that has the intention of killing the fetus inside the mother’s womb. This is nothing other than a murderous act, and it is in compliance with the very definition of murder in the general sense of the word.
It has to be understood that adoption is a very good alternative to adoption. In the present times, one of the most primary issues that women face owing to their lifestyles and pollution is infertility. Many women pine to get pregnant and have their own children, but are impeded by the medical complicacies. If the women who opt for abortion think of giving their children for adoption to such childless mothers, it would save the lives of the innocent souls. Apart from this many families in the society would be benefitted from the adoptions.
Even the biological mothers of such children can easily move on knowing the fact that their children are in good hands. Anyway, such mothers were unwilling to raise their own children. By giving the children for adoption, such people can ensure that the lives are not lost. One has to remember the fact that giving one’s child for adoption does not involve any expenditure also. Thus, mothers can save the money and the child’s life as well in this process.
Apart from this, one has to comprehend the fact that abortion is a medical process, and it takes a toll on the health of the pregnant woman. “Abortions can go wrong. They can leave mental and physical scars on a woman.” (Jenkins) In majority of the abortion cases, the women who have had abortion would face severe health complication in the future. No person wishes to put herself in such a situation where her own well-being would be at stake due to health issues.
The list of health complications is quite long. The jeopardy has its inception in the process of abortion itself. Statistically, there remains a chance of 10 percent that a woman would meet her untimely demise during the procedure of abortion. Moreover, survey shows that women with abortions will in general have a downgrade in overall health.
Such women would have weaker immune systems that would be another problem for their well-being. The far-reaching implications of going through an abortion are quite alarming to say the least. Women who have had abortion have twice the risk of cervical, liver, and ovarian cancer.
These ailments are very severe in nature, and these might bring death to the women also. Thus, all these things come into play in context of abortion. The women have to judge the cons of going through an abortion. If the humanitarian reasons are not appealing or convincing enough, they need to think about the complicated issues with regard to health that they themselves would become prone to if they go for adoption. “The issue is not when; the issue is whether, under certain conditions, we accept that it is morally acceptable for a woman to procure the termination of a pregnancy.” (Mackay)
However, the people who have an opinion that is in favor of abortion give their own logic to try and validate abortion in the society. They opine that the women are the child-bearers, and so they should have the right to do whatever they wish to with their body. No one can possibly comment on the propriety of abortion not being in the situation.
Another major issue that haunts the pregnant women is the fact that they might not be able to give a proper life to the child. Such pregnant ladies might feel that there is no need to bring the child in the world if she cannot ensure a comfortable life to him or her. Every mother or parent wishes to give the best to the child. Not being able to do so must be a painful thing for them.
Also, the child does not deserve to live a life of misery and odds. Pro-abortionists might argue saying, “Banning abortion, or restricting it to a few reasons, would not end demand, after all: A million women a year would still be seeking to end their pregnancies.” (Pollit)
One has to understand that if a woman is pregnant as a result of rape, then there is no point in going for the childbirth. In such a case, the child is really an unwanted one. The pregnant lady must have gone through a lot of physical pain and mental trauma. Thus, it is best to abort the child in such a scenario, whatever the health concerns might be. “Humanists regard abortion as better than bringing unwanted babies in the world.” (Jenkins)
Apart from this, if it is diagnosed that the fetus would grow into a disabled child, then there is no point in going for the birth. If the disabled child is born, he or she would lead a compromised life for years. There would be no medical help or miracle to make the child abled in any way. So, the women can go for abortion in such cases for ensuring that they do not bring a child who would live a life of perpetual suffering.
Having discussed the possible arguments that are in favor of abortion, one needs to understand that the cons surely outweigh the positives. Abortion is not a normal thing to do in general. If the women did not wish to have the child, they could have opted for oral contraceptives or other form of contraception prior to the pregnancy. In that way, the elders could have easily avoided the pregnancy, and not brought upon injustice to the living fetus later on.
Thus, there can be no logic to support abortion. It is not ethical or moral on the part of the mother to go for abortion only because she is bearing the fetus in her body. She might be the one who holds the fetus in the womb, but it is a different life from hers. Hence, she should not ethically kill someone else in this way at all.
Women who go for abortion should rethink their decision wisely. It can never be supported if they choose to kill a life for some issues that they have. The fetus should get a chance to be born for the sake of humanity, justice, and freedom of choice of the new life. No one else should have the liberty to decide the fate of the child, just because he or she is not in a condition to voice her opinion or wish.
The states should come forward to make abortion illegal. One cannot justify a killing of this sort. If people start to kill the fetus inside the womb, killing people can also be made to have some sort of twisted logical explanation. The ways that would be instrumental in minimizing abortions include awareness and realization among the people regarding the inhumanity that abortion involves. Also, if the state machinery comes forward to illegalize abortion, that would be a clear sign to one and all about the impropriety of the act.
Thus, it is best to give chance to life. People should come forward to propagate the idea of not killing an unborn child. If one believes in god, then he or she can think of childbirth as godly on the part of the mother since she is bringing a new life on earth. If one is an atheist, nothing can be more supreme than being able to bring a new life in the world. Whatever be the societal condition or the situation of the mother, abortions are a big no for all.
