The stage of adolescent occurs in most teens starting the age of 14 years. This is the time when teens start experiencing changes in their bodies which are biological, social, psychological and spiritual. There are also notable changes on the peers and family relationships. Spiritually, the adolescent age is paramount as it brings about development in the teen. The young individual begins to explore new ideas and evaluates the spiritual beliefs that have been instilled in them by their parents and the society. All other prejudices that children have heard or seen are evaluated at this stage of development and therefore a very important time in the growth of a child.
The spirituality of adolescents is relational as it is influenced by a swarm of factors. They include parents, friends and relationships. Peer victimization is said to have an impact on the spirituality of adolescents as they listen and act as their friends. The prejudice that adolescents who experienced severe victimization in their school life have low spiritual forgiveness levels was confirmed to be true. Students who previously experienced bullying indicate low levels of spiritual forgiveness. This happens as their level of forgiveness which is enshrined in them from their previous teaching of their parents goes down.
As victimization becomes frequent, adolescents become less open to spiritual forgiveness. This means that they are less likely to forgive their counterparts. In addition, there is a direct correlation between religious attendance and peer victimization. Adolescents mainly attend church with their families. Therefore, their spirituality is related to their parents beliefs and practices and not their own free will. The motivating factors that lead to adolescents being involved in church activities included wanting to learn more about religion, parents encouragement and wanting to increase their spirituality.
