Advertising To Children Essay Example
Advertising to children involves the actions taken to market services and products to children (Watson, 2014). There are many debates going around concerning the influence these advertisements have on the consumption patterns of the children. The governments in different countries have intervened by setting standards that must be met by the advertisements. Companies have also adopted their own regulations so as to avoid subjecting the children to advertisements that cause negative impacts on child behavior (Watson, 2014).
My viewpoint on advertising to children involves the application of ethics while setting up an advertisement. Ethical behavior will ensure that the companies focus on the well being of the children rather than on sales. The numerous advertisements end up making the children feel bad if they cannot possess a variety of the products being advertised. Some of the products are hazardous, but the beautiful advertisements make the children insist on having them. I think the best way to keep the children safe is by testing out the products before supplying them to the market. Products that do not meet the safety standards should not be allowed into the market.
There are instances where the products are able to get into the market despite their low standards of safety. Such products should be recalled so that they cannot cause harm to the children. Some edible products that are advertised to the children should be recalled if they pose future harm to the children. Childhood obesity is caused due to allowing children to easily access the unhealthy foods. Foods that have the potential of causing childhood obesity should be recalled, and discontinued so as to promote the health of the children.
