Since its existence from 2008, Algoma multicultural center (AMC) has worked to unite different cultures and helped immigrants to get employment and attain driver's licenses. Where necessary AMC has also helped in translation services to enhance communication.
Constraints and Recommendations
With its board of directors ranging from students from the Algoma University, full-time employed individuals, and retirees, AMC is facing many hurdles that play a part in the organizations slow growth. For instance, Lack of funding aid has been a challenge to AMC as an organization. For this reason, meeting the organization's desires, objectives, and ambitions becomes impossible. Therefore, as a recommendation to this problem, AMC should write proposals, to other well-off organizations, governmental institutions, as well as individuals for support. In addition, AMC should strive to be associated with multinational organizations that do what they do or help individuals in societies.
Further, the organization faces a major problem in the board of directors where there is not a high turnover of board membership due to lack of individual's passion for fighting for the positions. In handling this, the organization should create annual elections for the top positions as well as sight allowances for people in those positions. Consequently, the organization with its affiliation with Algoma University should encourage students on internship or attachments to work towards getting a job with them. As time goes by the organization should finally start employing people to take the tasks of running the organization's activities as a full-time job.
The recommendations from students enrolled in the program were that the AMC work on reconstructing the organization, which involved assigning different tasks to different individuals on the board. However, the recommendations given were not implemented but rather the Organization's Board continued to operate as a team. It is of extreme importance for the board members to realize that for the organization to grow, tasks should be given to specific people who are to report their achievements. These individuals should plan and execute activities of the organization to the expected level, thus pushing the organization towards growth.
Regardless of the partnerships created between the YMCA, New to the sault organization as well as the government officials, no monetary funding has come to the AMC. Initially, the organization depended on Sita the founder for funding’s and to date, AMC has yet to find a solid donor that creates the other problem of lack of any existing budget. For this reason, AMC should have learned from this and thus create programs in it to make money thus reduction of dependability to donors. Further, the AMC received money to fund their events. However, the organization has so far only hosted two events of its own, which the aim was to raise awareness. To the AMC board members, the organization's goal was not to make profits rather break even. This lack of ambition in profit making is deteriorating the organization's chances of growth. For this reason, for growth purposes, it is wise that AMC makes and implements profitmaking projects and programs aimed at helping the organization stand on its own.
On facility matters, AMC does not have a physical Location since Sita was funding the offices of the organization before she stepped down after which no one was left to pay for premises. Consequently, an address or office location is required, which is vital to letter collection as well as visitors or well-wishers who can come and visit the location. The issue also brings the problem of lack of office facility where the members of the board can hold their meetings. In addition, when there are events that need a bigger place, offices are hired by the organization at different venues. It is out rightly logic enough to know the importance of physical location and address of any organization or institution otherwise the AMC looks like a shadow society.
AMC does not market itself or do anything that is associated with cost. As a result, the organization solely relies on word-of-mouth to create awareness of its existence. The other issue is that AMC’s website is excessively simple and does not fully state the objectives of the organization to its clientele. Further, only one language is offered by the organization, thus limiting its clientele. In addition, the website is poorly maintained because the individual in charge is overwhelmed with other pressuring issues. As a result, an individual should be employed for this job.
Other constraints are that the organization does not provide the proof of the need for insurance thus falling short to be funded by the federal government. Further, members of the board are unable to fill in funding application forms. The organization should fill the form with the aid of a lawyer where necessary, which is in regards to governmental funding.
Control and feedback
The website provides the best feedback arena between the clientele and the organization, for this reason; it should be updated on a daily if not hourly basis on issues pertaining to the group. With the emergence of social media applications, for instance, Twitter, Facebook, among others, AMC should make use of them thus forming a community of its own and feedback. Where an individual assigned to a particular task is lagging behind, he or she should face demotion, sacking of the board for explanations.
Contingency plan
The other plan, if this does not work, is to scrap off the board members and let the organization start afresh with new individuals in the positions of chair, secretary, and treasurer.
