Abstract
There had been conflicting statistics on the incidence of rape and sexual assaults. The Bureau of Justice provided a more conservative figure to 300,000 cases reported annually (Bureau of Justice, 2015). On the other hand, a report made by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention provided a high estimate at 1.3 million documented annually (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). While this has been the case, there is still a 54% undocumented cases of rape and sex-related cases (Connell, 2014). This study is designed to verify the statistics while at the same time taking into serious consideration the details and the specificity of rape as a crime. In addition, an empirical study that seeks to review the documented cases of rape and other sex-related crimes. Inclusive to this study are cases of sodomy, oral copulation, and other similar sexual offenses. The proponent of this study will draw inferences on what merits the similarity in the documented cases to establish a pattern that would deter the growing incidence of sexually motivated offenses. Similarly, this will take special consideration on the demographics of the cases for a more extensive analysis.
