I am writing to request an appeal of the dismissal decision.
Knowing that education and training are vital elements in preparation for a successful future career, I fully realize with hindsight that I have so far wasted the opportunities made available to me at nursing school. My low grade performance that ultimately resulted in my dismissal is entirely my own fault.
Basically, my double class failure stems from what I have to confess was fundamentally my own laziness. As a result, I failed to make adequate use of the resources provided, including the library and the CAS Center. I did not take advantage of the available services of tutors and did not knuckle down to my studies as I should have.
The shock of being dismissed from school has been a real wake-up call, and has made me realize that I have to turn over a new leaf and dramatically change my attitude and my ways, if I am to be given a second chance to succeed in my studies and thereby to achieve the successful outcome that I know is well within my true capabilities.
If the committee is able to accept that I am sincere in my change of attitude and that I am determined to avoid those former mistakes, I promise that I will repay their faith in me by being the dedicated and hard-working student that I failed to be previously.
If given that second opportunity, I intend to change my job schedule so that I can work fewer hours, and therefore will be able to devote a greater number of hours to my nursing studies.
Furthermore, I will make full use of the library facilities and the CAS Center, and will consult the tutors whenever and as often as I or they think I could benefit from the expert advice, help, and guidance they are able and willing to provide.
In short, this time around I will be a model student. I will use all the available resources, study hard and diligently, and act responsibly in order to gain the full benefit from the school.
I know that using this approach I will acquire the knowledge and skills that I can gain through the nursing school studies and which will serve me and my patients well in the future. I will also join study groups and make more friends, which will be mutually beneficial on the road to a successful school outcome.
Finally, I want to assure the committee that I really have learned a hard lesson from my mistakes and have seen the errors of my previous ways. The old “me” is no more; I am fully focused on succeeding. There is a part of me that needs to do it to prove that I can, but essentially I have realized that I have let everyone down (myself included), and to make amends in the best way possible – by graduating from nursing school with flying colors.
