Research has shown that exposure to violence and hostility can have damaging effects on the ripe minds of children and teenagers, who are emotionally unstable and much prone to follow suit in that violence and aggression. The wrong kind of material shown to young minds can have deleterious effects.
A study was conducted on several college students where they were allowed to play a video game that exhibited violent matter. Later, they were made to play that asked them to decide different levels of punishments they could give to another participant. The results were drastic since after playing that violent game, the adolescents had delivered the severest the punishments at a rate forty percent higher than in the game. (Violent Video Game Effects, n.pag).
In many other instances, it has been observed that the amount of aggression, violence and urge to repeat the violent behavior seen in the video game increases significantly in a child or young adult. This aggression also becomes a part of their verbal language, where these gamers constantly talk about how to kill someone or maybe on how to break the law and commit crimes. Some of them prefer to take this a little too seriously. The incidences, of stabbing others with a knife, shooting at school, driving irresponsibly and demonstrating excessive aggression, are all side effects of these very video games. Not only that, increased exposure to violent video games can lead to lower academic performance, lost interest in studies and it equally applies to both the genders, whomever chooses to play these games.
In the end, however, the duty lies with the parents or guardians to check the intensity of violence in a game before allowing their child to play it since this violence leaves negative psychological impacts. A source of entertainment needs not exceed its purpose and cause harm to its users.
