The artist I have picked is Julie Green who is absolutely talented at playing with colors and themes. Sayre has mentioned her on page 237 of chapter 11 in the book “A world of Art”. Following painting by Julie grabbed my attention. It is titled as “Don’t name Fish after Friends”. She made this remarkable piece of art in 1999.
She has used the medium of Egg tempera on panel, 24 * 18. She has painted a black cat with scary teeth who is trying to climb up the wall in the secret search of something. A couple of leaves and a flower can also be seen in the background of the painting right behind the cat which is complementing the whole picture. The theme she has picked reflects the social sickness of the society and the friendly ties which have vanished over time. No one can be your real or sincere friend in this mean world. Therefore she has tried to convey a message with the help of colors and an image that one should be really careful regarding the kind and extent of secrets to be shared with so called friends. So many people misuse each other in the name of such a noble and beautiful relationship. Friendship is a sweet bond but the contemporary society just manipulates and exploits it. It is often observed that the worst enemies could be the best friends because they know where exactly the person could be stabbed. Therefore one must be careful in making friends and well-wishers. Not one who claims to be a friend is a friend in reality.
