The advertisement that caught my attention while I was walking by a store was a poster up for teaching English language to non-native speakers. The advertisement had meant to impress the non-natives with the apparent flaunted use of English; however the English was bad enough to be recognized by any foreigner himself. The very first line defined the standard of English that was going to be conveyed further. The sentences following them were highly unprofessional and unattractive for any person to join that academy for learning English from them.
The most major mistake made by these people were the obvious grammatical and syntactical errors they committed to forming sentences and phrasing words. No doubt that slogans such as ‘Graduated in a single 6 months’ would attract a few people, however, those with a little knowledge of the language would know that single and 6 months do not go together. The next line is highly unprofessional and informal whereby saying ‘You do not waste your time with annoying rules’ makes it sound quite demeaning because some people like going and learning by ‘rules’. The next line is the most vivid example of the worst use of English. ‘The Spanish’ rules it out at first that the writer obviously had no sense of English Grammar or use of articles. And the context is completely out of proportion and a foreigner would never understand what message the advertisement wants to convey to them.
If it simply said, ‘Learn English in 6 months as fluently as you learned Spanish! That’s a guarantee!’ then perhaps the message would be clearer, well-defined and give a positive message to the readers rather than ruin the image of the academy and the effect its business adversely.
