The Battle of Gettysburg fought in 1863 in the town of the Pennsylvania Gettysburg between Confederate and Union army. This war was fought during the American Civil War. This war involved the highest number of casualties in the entire war and is considered to be the turning point in the American Civil War. The Union Major General Meade’s army defeated the force attacks by Confederate Lee’s Army. This ended the Lee’s thought and force to invade the Northern region. This war resulted in the highest number of casualties. Both the armies suffered around 50,000 casualties. The Union suffered casualties of around 23000 soldiers of which around 5,500 were captured, and more than 14,000 were wounded and 3,100 killed. On the other hand the Confederate casualties were relatively different to identify but many claim that around 23,000 casualties existed out of which 12,700 were wounded, 4,700 killed and around 5,800 were captured. Almost more than a third of Lee’s main officers were either killed, captured or wounded.
This war was significant for Union because they won this battle. The Confederates lost their military and publicity. This war turned out to be the turning point in the American Civil War. The Lee’s were defeated miserably, and it was sure that they will never attack the Northern region again. The Union victory in this war occurred on the day before the Grant was captured in Vicksburg. This left an impact on the Union’s and the northerners that they had the capability to win the war. This victory also helped to end the Southern region search for the foreign power to help in the war. After this war had ended, countries like France and Great Britain stopped providing aid to the Confederates.
