Part 1A: Public Health Initiative Approval (Borehole Water Initiative)

The essence of water is indispensable to public health, not least because of the fact that its usefulness to all human beings is imminent to their survival and everyday activities. Such is the purpose of the Borehole Water Initiative, a public health initiative that aims to improve the overall well-being of community stakeholders within a selected community through a project that ensures continuous supply of potable water. Under the Borehole Water Initiative, community stakeholders will be made to own the project through collaboration with the Community Development Association (CDA). In turn, community stakeholders can have greater control over the maintenance, sustenance and support the project under the Borehole Water Initiative needs.
Richardson (2007) emphasized the importance of the Borehole Water Initiative to enable the selected community to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by enhancing water access and management. Such would lead the selected community to have greater opportunities for health and livelihood improvement mainly through greater empowerment of local enterprises and implementation of best practices in local governance in accordance to proper management of water resources. Ideally, the Borehole Water Initiative must select a community that has poor or no access to potable water (Cooney, 2008; Richardson, 2007).

Rationale

The key to understanding the rationale behind the Borehole Water Initiative lies on determining the circumstances affecting water access and management in the selected community, which in turn poses significant consequences to the public health of community stakeholders. Cooney (2008) noted that through the rationale of the Borehole Water Initiative to employ a cost-effective approach to provide potable water to the selected community and prevent the spread of illnesses related to poor management of water resources, community stakeholders would be able to apply best practices in improving personal hygiene and maintaining health conditions to favorable levels. Such, therefore, makes the Borehole Water Initiative a catalyst for social enhancement within the selected community (Cooney, 2008).
