The thesis is whether the stalemate in groups makes the CEOs dictators by default. The final decision in the event of an impasse lies with the managers or CEOs yet soon after the decision is made; some of the workers are dissatisfied and label the CEOs dictators. The striking ideas include the requirement that the boss need to ask the impossible, and learn to manage such through various ways. Such ideas make the boss focus on the core problem. Managing the impossible, the boss has to make it clear what is expected from the deliberations. In addition, the leader is required to present alternative ways to approach the problem including testing the validity of them all. In the event the boss has certain preferences for whatever reasons, he or she needs to make them known early enough. Evaluation of the pros and cons of the alternatives helps make the best decision. Such an approach reduces chances of conflict in the team.
The two grounding rules are surprising. The fact that one has to deliberate in confidentiality is a tricky situation in a work situation as ideas or opinions of the executive tend to trickle down sometimes inadvertently. Further, one has to make sure that the deliberations are within an appropriate time frame. The facts presented as appropriate team approaches to solving problems are in concurrence all the previous readings. The ideas support the fundamental group formation and teamwork even when there are differences. However, there is a small twist on how the leaders ought to approach the decision-making process. The article is clear enough. However, one wonders how practical this approach is. It tends to be too rigid in its approach and assumes that all group member would cooperate thought-out the process. Such is not the case.
