1. Is it ethical to invade someone’s privacy?
The naturalistic field study conducted by the researchers is unethically and illegitimate. People deserve to live their life without monitoring. The ethics of privacy protection is a notion that is widely accepted value. Some parts of the Constitution support the privacy concept such as protection of people against surveillance and interference. Philosophers Samuel Warren and Louis Brandeis provide a comprehensive analysis that justifies the right to privacy. The researchers claim that privacy is an emerging right that desires recognition given the growth of culture. The recent inventions and business models should protect people to avoid invading in their sacred zones. The law should address the violation of privacy in a strict manner compared to physical harm. That called for modification of the existing laws that focus on physical damages.
2. Example of drastic case in the news the role of media in the available heuristics
Lena Sun a reporter of the Washington Post on September 23, 2014 stated the Ebola cases could claim at least 1.4 million West Africans unless there is a drastic measure in place. Researchers believe there are many unreported cases of the scourge especially in Liberia and Sierra Leone where it is hard hit. The researchers argue that in the two countries there are extrapolating trends due to poor burial practices of the communities. The international community must take a drastic action such as improving treatment and isolation to bring the situation under control. A WHO report states that Ebola epidemic will explode where the international community fails to intensify an immediate response. The UN agency states that the case is likely to surge with the number of infections tripling. The media states that the scourge will become a permanent feature of the human population. Health workers in some countries turn away the sick due to shortages of beds and staff. The available heuristics in the media is that the scourge will wipe out people and making them have a low perception of African continent.
