Introduction:
Diversity is common to the nature’s order. Celebrating it and giving it credit is an honorable thing to do. This paper will tackle two articles about Managing Workplace Diversity from Diversity Inc.’s official website.
It’s Time to reach Out (Feb, 2010)
The article was all about the challenges faced by black employees. The article is an encouragement to fellow employees of any office that to face progress is also to give respect to employment diversity. The walls of an office need not judge a person regardless of what is his ethnicity, gender, color or religion. The author suggested that you can feel lightness when you help somebody or when you lift their spirits (Visconti, p 10).
The article was very concise and comprehensive. It has stated information about a black person that suffers depression in his work. The article is over-all encouraging to the African-Americans to stop being so negative on their selves. It is evident that the situation today in the modern world has been changed and it is very different from the earlier years when blacks were discriminated. It is also much related to the Chapter 2 of the Book entitled “Managing Workplace Diversity” by Selina Greswold. The chapter 2 of the book is “Why Value Diversity”. Furthermore, the method the article was conversed has supported the claims of the book regarding the support on Workplace Diversity (Greswold, pp. 15-25).
Yes, over-all the article is very helpful in giving tips how to approach depressed co-workers especially if they are experiencing discrimination. The article is light-hearted and can give support to anyone that was so stressed about their current situation.
Basing on the flow of the article, it is mainly an argument proving that White Americans can still talk about Workplace Diversity. It is common that white men were regarded by many other tribes of the American Continent the superior one. However, understanding the existence of White Men is also integral and relative to the issue of discrimination. It is evident that black or white, diversity refers to everyone. The author also talks about how he was convinced by a Black Person (Visconti, p 31).
The opinion of the author is that anybody can talk about diversity. It is because that this issue is universal and nobody is exempted. It is also added that the author is a white guy but chose to give enlightenment about the issue. No one is allowed to discriminate everybody. It is also stated by the author that there is no difference between a black and a white guy. That no one deserves discrimination. Additionally, the article also concluded on a point that even if the majority culture prevails everybody is “still free to do what they have to do”. I consider that Chapter 3 of this book is very relative to the contents. The Chapter 3 of the book gives as insight about men in the early years of the 20th century. And how they are look by black men. The information in the article is crucial for both black and white men. This is to address the misconception that “White men are greater than black men.”
All in all, the article was filled with conviction about the treatment of black people in workplaces. Additionally, the way it was delivered is very convincing. Nevertheless, it was very good in giving points about the authority of white men.
