Consumption of farm produce that contain heavy metals is unhealthy. People need to look for measures that can help in the reduction of these acts. If the cooperative fails to adhere to the above, it may lead to harmful effects such as illnesses. The diseases that may be contracted include cancer and others. For this case, the investigators who found the high levels of the metals in the food needed to have informed the farming cooperative first. This thought is due to various reasons (Alloway, 2012).
First, informing the farming cooperative first guarantees them to make changes internally and fast without any alarm. The reduction in alarm will ensure the constant flow of operations within the cooperative and it will only be possible under constant supervision of the researchers. It will also ensure that the farming cooperative changes especially under situations that they received supplies from outside (Agarwal, 2009).
Informing the cooperative first reduces the sanctions and fines from the government. If the government learns that there are those metals within the produce, it will impose fines and penalties on the cooperative and finally stop funding it. This act will affect the production as the cooperative might close. The government may also issue directions to the affected community not to consume the produce (Menoni, 2010).
Additionally, failing to inform the cooperative first might jeopardize its competition in the field. The competitors might use the opportunity to tarnish the name of the cooperative. Also, the cooperative will know how it will withdraw the current produce from the market in a professional manner (Alloway, 2012).
However, the researchers need to identify a way of informing the government in a manner that doesn’t create alarm. Informing it might ensure that the cooperative is compelled to explain the source of the metals. It will lead to quality products hence protection to the farmers (Agarwal, 2009).
In conclusion, the first party to be informed is the farming cooperative. It is due to the various reasons that have been given. If the information to the cooperative does not work properly, then the government is the next to be informed. This should only be under a situation when the farming cooperative has not cooperated and made the required changes.
