Community Policing Careers Critical Thinking Example

An effective policing department that is equal to the tasks of the time is crucial to the United States. In essence knowing who is fit for the police force and where to select such people from is central to achieving an effective policing department in the country. The United States pertinent of justice has made a significant effort to fund the recruiting agencies and help them identify the specific qualities of those interested to join the force.

Question 1

According to Gaines, Kappeler & Vaughn (2011), the qualities that recruiting agencies incorporate in their selection criteria are many and can never be exhaustive. Nevertheless, there are key competencies that those who seek jobs in the police force must possess to be recruited. Pertinently, the job seekers are expected to can multitask to meet the ever-increasing roles of maintaining security especially in the face of the ISIS threats. In order to express respect for human rights, it is also crucial that those who join the police force exhibit a high sense of integrity and possess the ability to use good judgments in finding solutions to problems. In addition, the police recruits are people who should communicate effectively and possess skills to elaborate complex ideas to different ages and diverse audiences using English and foreign languages. Moreover, the ability to interact with people from different cultures as well as having capacity to work in teams constitutes key competencies the recruiting agencies consider.

Question 2

Nowadays, predictive policing seems to be a buzzword. According to Castaneda, Ridgeway & Rand Infrastructure, Safety, and Environment Organization, United States (2010), this type of policing aims at eliminating chances of crime occurring long before it is even there. In my opinion, the United States laws may not in the future allow technology to decide the fate of an individual who has not committed any crime. However, it is my firm belief that technology will be substantial applied to deter crime. Because the security is a matter for all, the future community policing will find application of technology inevitable. It is my anticipation that in the future is that police officers will have technically trained and be tech savvy. Similarly, community policing ought to be more inclusive. Thus, there will be need to open crime data in order to promote transparency and trust essential for a more coherent society.
