There are several signs that Sally is experiencing job stress: (1) she is being irritable (2) she is getting into a lot of petty arguments with Steve, her fiancé (3) she has also become short tempered (4) she became uninterested with learning about the new product line among others.
I think the reason is because she’s been so focused with her job she forgot to give herself a chance to breathe and relax a little bit. She works overly hard causing her to catch an illness. She is also very self-focused, not mingling with his colleagues because she thinks that everyone else is a competition.
Sally is getting into petty arguments with her fiancé; she also spends lesser time with him so they do not have time to talk about their future plans. Sally also develops a sense of insecurity from her family, thinking that her family would not care much about her personal circumstances. I would think that it is not her fiancé and her family who is affecting her work but it is Sally’s attitude toward her career that is causing the problem: she is overly concentrated on her job to the extent that she forgets her responsibility to her fiancé, to herself, and to her family.
I would tend to relax a little bit and not overwork. The advantage of this is that it would give me enough time to rest and find time for my family and fiancé. I would start mingling with my colleagues and not think of them as competition. The advantage of this is that it would allow me to feel that I am not alone and it would help me create a supportive group that will help me cope up with stress.
I think what Sally need is both emotional and informational. When you are bested by your emotion, it is difficult to think logically; thus, she needs someone to inform her about how she’s been doing so far and how she can improve her social life. Second, I think she needs emotional support because her job is causing her emotional breakdown. She tends to develop paranoia so she badly needs to socialize to get a glimpse and sense of reality.
I would talk to Sally and ask her about her personal problems. If it is within my capacity, I would reduce her job obligations so that she would not overwork and would find time for herself and her family and fiancé.
