Upon going through the process of forming a team and exploring what makes a team effective, I get to appreciate the value of understanding that a team is supposed to be relatively permanent. And in order to maintain a team, there must be a strong and personal commitment from among its members. Regardless of its type, whether it is a management team or a work team, the most important value that would bind together to efficiency is teamwork and individual commitment. In setting goals, I would like to put emphasis on the team composition because the power of the team relies on its members. Definitely, I would focus on my task roles and building roles. I should encourage other members of the team to do their part and be more efficient in their own tasks. I will also work on my abilities and personality traits. For instance, because teamwork is naturally complicated, I must brush on my cognitive ability in order to perform better and to complete the tasks much for quickly and effectively. I should go through refresher programs that would enhance my skills and my abilities. Also, considering that our personality traits can also take effect on the manner in which the team functions, I would consider applying a conscientious attitude towards my work and my teammates. It is also best for me to be agreeable, being open-minded to my teammates’ opinions and suggestions, while taking a very objective view on my approach to my personal tasks. It is okay to receive suggestions and opinions from people but if I think that it would not make any great contribution to the team’s goals and my individual tasks, I should be willing to respectfully take those aside.
