Domestic Violence and Homicide

Domestic violence against women is common in the modern wold and has different forms. The most serious and fatal form is violence and homicide by an intimate partner. Women are more likely to become the victims of violence than men, especially taking into account that domestic violence often ends with homicide when weapon is involved. Moreover, the latest data shows that women are more likely to be victimized by their intimate partners at home than at any other place.
It is also important to mention sex trafficking in the context of domestic violence. Such form of people exploitation is forbidden and condemned in every society but women and girls often become victims of it. This is a form of modern slavery that exists globally. Sex traffickers use any possible form of coercion like threats and lies to force women to engage in sexual relations against their will. Some experts are now referring to the sex trafficking of children and youths as “domestic minor sex trafficking”.
Some people state that it all requires some level of tolerance within the community that allows it to exist. In modern world sex trade became a highly profitable industry that proves the fact that some countries adopted “culture of tolerance” that maintains and supports trafficking markets. This industry works basing on the principle “if there is a demand, there must be a supply” that proves the fact that the struggle against domestic violence is sometimes only ostentatious.
Normally, each society condemns domestic violence and tries to protect women of whatever color and race. There are lots of ways how community responds to any possible form of domestic violence, namely legal protection and law enforcement that grants severe punishment for those who commit such crimes. However, some victims are afraid of asking for help because they are afraid of their intimate partners reaction and society's condemnation. Parrot and Cummings say that “women who are victimized by male dominance are blamed for the violence perpetrated against them” (42).Thus, they continue to suffer violence until it gets too late when the consequences can be fatal.
There are quite a lot of advocacy organizations or that protect women's rights around the globe. They initiate coordinated community response programs that should develop laws and special policies, promote victim safety, educate service providers and strengthen community awareness and skills. Hospitals and narrow specialist provide the victims with psychological assistance. The major support and assistance is provided by family and friends. They are able to create such an atmosphere for a victim that her rehabilitation will last for a shorter period of time and with better outcome.
