Critical Thinking On Critical Issues In Our School
The school is an institution where children groom themselves, get knowledge and prepare themselves for the future endeavors of life. A school aims to develop a healthy personality of a child, but one thing which hinders this aim is bullying. Bullying is an act of superfluous, violent behavior in children that engage real or alleged power disparity. Verbal or physical attacks, unnecessary threats or purposely excluding someone from the group are all acts of bullying.
The teachers are mainly responsible to prevent bullying in their classroom in order to maintain the sanctity of the classroom and ensure effective learning of students. There are few techniques which can help teacher achieve their purpose. A teacher can learn all the district policies and the school rules regarding the act of bullying and can then implement them effectively on students.
A teacher is not only a guide but can also become a friend of students. By showing concern for students and helping them realize the teacher is always available to talk and help on any matter, bullying can be hindered. Moreover, a teacher can conduct sessions in class in which he/she create awareness among students about the acts of bullying and how they adversely affect the victim. Teachers can set rules in class regarding bullying and reinforce the rules strictly by showing seriousness in the matter.
Fighting against bullying can be more effective if teacher involves other staff members in the mission. By working together as a group, teachers can discuss the acts of bullying that are noticed in the class and can pay specific attention to children which are involved in such acts. The biggest prevention technique of bullying is to take action right away. Tolerance of bad behavior gives an impression that such acts can be continued, but immediate actions will definitely hinder students to perform such act again.
Children who become the victim of bullying are not only affected, but those who perform the act, and those who witness it are equally affected. Therefore, in such situations; a teacher should listen to the facts of the scenario individually from each student and support each student to ensure that bullying does not continue, and the adverse effects of bullying are curtailed.
The research and ideas of this paper help in understanding the prevention techniques for bullying as this is a common problem faced by most of the teenagers, and it affects the personality of a child adversely.
It is necessary for all schools to fight against bullying because it is reported that thirty-two percent of children in school suffer from this problem. Moreover, bullying not only puts a child in depression and anxiety, but it also leads to various mental and health problems. It is also seen that in serious cases; students indulge in physical violence which can have dangerous outcomes.
Schools should increase the participation of adults in all areas of the school such as hallways, lockers, assembly and cafeteria as the majority of bullying occurs in the absence of adults. Therefore, adult supervision will prevent bullying to a great extent.
