Critical Thinking On Same Gender Marriages Should Not Be Allowed

Same gender marriage involves a marriage between two individuals of the same gender. Many states have already enacted a law, allowing this type of marriage. However, this should not be allowed. Jeff Jordan (233) says that there are good reasons as to why this type of marriage should not be legally allowed. The author’s main point of not being in favor of same gender marriage is very particular, which states that extending the legal marital status to same gender marriage is illiberal. Thus, it violates the two fundamentals of liberalism. The key concepts that encompass the author’s disagreement involve three models such as the sacramental, communional, and transactional (Jordan 231). We may say that sacramental model, which states that marriage is a life-long relationship between a man and a woman and it is such an environment of procreation and the raising of children (Jordan 232). This could be the most important key concept among the three models that the author suggested. On the other hand, the communional model states that there is a biological relationship between a man and a woman, which is reproductive in nature. Therefore, this may not be possible between two married individuals of the same gender. Lastly, the transactional model portrays that marriage is a form of transaction that is recognized by the state.
Same gender marriage should not be allowed due to the author’s support to his main arguments. Jordan (234) used various supporting arguments such as the equality, the liberalism principles along with the models of marriage, and his views that such issue is as bad as antimiscegenation. These supporting arguments also support the morality and liberalism importance of marriage as part of having a good society. Therefore, allowing marriage between the same sexes will violate the core principle of our society. Within the author’s arguments, one of the questions about his reasoning would be the equality within marriage. Is equality definite only of marriage involves two individuals of different sexes? The information relevant to this question is one of the author’s arguments to support the key concept of his main view, which is the equality argument.
