In the exploration stage, I think the attending behavior is very crucial in the determination of whether the client will speak freely or will end up withholding important information. The attending behavior should be conducted in a way that will encourage the client to open up (Todd & Bohart, 2006). The therapist should provide an attitude that shows the client that he is very interested in hearing everything the client has to say. The therapist should also show the client that he is listening. Showing empathy encourages the client to open up because the therapist seems to understand rather than make judgment (Praveen, 2013). I find the insight stage to be the most challenging because it involves making interpretations. A wrong interpretation can lead to very bad results. The therapist has to be very keen and ensure that the client stays in the right path.

I like the ease with which you are able to embrace the counseling skills and techniques. I agree that experience enables a person to conduct the counseling process easily, but don’t you think that being overconfident can lead to mistakes? Each counseling session is unique due to the nature of the problem or the character of the client. I think the exploration stage will require more attention so that a therapist can learn about the client. There is also the risk of overlooking some points in the early stages. This can be caused by drawing a conclusion about the client at the beginning of the exploration stage (SYN, 2015). It may impact on the decisions made by the therapist, and lead to false results.
