The world is not black and white as it involves both tough and smooth situations. The tough situations and even some of the smooth scenarios might require every bit of courage one can muster within him or herself. This paper seeks to define what courage is all about.
Courage is indeed a broad term that has been used since the very beginning of time. For instance, during the medieval times in the history of mankind, courage was among the greatest attribute that a man would possess. This is because, the term courage was basically thought of as the emotional and psychological strength that one might need to face a physical challenge and successfully see it through. The physical attributes like strength were deemed meaningless without the sense of courage within one.
In other words, without courage one might be unable to face the coming challenges in life and so it was considered among the greatest gifts one can possess. For instance, the kings and generals that participated in the memorable wars like the pioneer fighters for the American independence from British all depicted the great benefits of having courage as one of the qualities one must have while leading a whole nation. This gives the notion of what courage is especially noting the fact that the American freedom seekers were outnumbered at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War.
In simple terms, the term courage was a very important part for a leader. Even today, even though the number of physical wars has dissipated greatly, courage is indeed a part of the world today. In order to make decisions, managers and leaders of various fields are needed to show courage to take a certain path for the company, organization or country to take part. Therefore, courage today can be defined as the energy that one needs to make vital decisions for one’s life as well as that for others as a leader despite the risks that are up ahead on that road. For instance, for Barrack Obama to decide to venture into politics and seek presidency against all odds takes courage at a very high degree. Thus courage is what makes us move on in life in spite of the risks.
Therefore, courage today is among the greatest qualities that a leader can possess in order to lead well. Despite the fact that the courage today and the historical view courage are not the same, it is very important for one to face risks.
