The word responsibility is among the most commonly used words in various aspects of human socialization and formal communication. More than often, the teachers, parents, clergymen, our friends, the judges, etc. use the word responsibility to denote some different aspects. The definition of the word, therefore, may vary depending on the context used. The following is a description of what responsibility may mean in various contexts.
Responsibility means acting or doing things in the right way. In this case, one is said to be responsible if such a person acts in accordance with established norms, procedures, laws, etiquette, etc. The deviation from such established rules has various consequences. For example, one is admonished or prosecuted in the court of the laws. For instance, not following the traffic regulations may lead to prosecution.
Responsibility also may mean taking care of the others or doing one’s duty. One needs to take care of others due to the position one holds in the society to take care of others. Such is depicted by minding the welfare of the other or just performing one’s duties rightly. For example, the police ought to maintain law and order.
Further, responsibility may mean honoring up one’s mistakes readily and willingness to change. Human are prone to errors. Therefore, more than often one would make mistakes in life. Some people may attribute their failures or shortcomings to others. That is not being responsible. For example, when a student fails in class, such a student ought to own up his or her mistakes readily and be willing to change.
