Through my research and readings, I have come across a wealth of information concerning the issue of career development and how it is closely related to human development. According to Dik, Sargent and Steger (2008), career development is taken as an ongoing lifelong developmental process which pays much attention on the way individuals seek, obtain as well as process the available information in respect to oneself, education as well as occupation. This is a clear indication that indeed career development and human development are an integral part which is considered to grow and move together in a continuum. Career development has also been considered to be a sequence of changes particularly occurring throughout the life of the individual in reference to psychological evolution which takes part within the life of an individual or even considering the individuals status within a social entity (Hoekstra, 2011).
Developmental model indeed need to influence our work with the clients. In order to serve my client well without discrimination, I use a developmental approach. This approach allows me to attend to my entire client without any sense of discrimination. Through this approach I am able to have a client centered approach where I empathize with my client as well as having an unconditional positive attitude towards them. As a white individual when I encounter with a black client, even though we can from different background I am able to service the client professionally without being influenced by perception of race which might bring about racial discrimination. Therefore, when I incorporate developmental model as I deal with my client, I will be in a position to ensure that my client are satisfied with my services. It is evidence that career development and human development are considered to work as one entity.
