Difficulties And Challenges I Had During Studying Abroad In US Essays Examples

The person who is moving to a foreign country for acquiring education has to face a number of challenges and difficulties. The difficulties are due to the change in everything as the student has moved to an entirely different environment. This new environment will not have any resemblance to his home country. The culture, social, language, rules, and norms differences are quite common for a student studying abroad. Moreover, he cannot find any companion too who can help with these difficulties. As a student, I was awarded the scholarship from Saudi Arabia to study in US. Saudi Arabia has opposite rules, customs, and culture. Moreover, the language difference is quite noticeable. Hence, moving to US for the aim of the study abroad was very tough and difficult for me. Being a resident of Saudi Arabia, it was difficult to cope up with the new language and customs. Moreover, the lack of knowledge of the new language made me solitary, and I cannot communicate very well. The insufficient knowledge of the new language was an important issue as I was not able to go through the classes. The lectures were provided in the language of US. Hence, I cannot quickly get through the lecture which left me with the improper understanding of the subject. I was hesitated to take part in the seminars and discussions due to lack of linguistics knowledge. In a seminar, I used to try to understand about the topic and could only make through some of the points only. Moreover, in a discussion, I cannot participate as I was not sure where to speak up. In addition, the queries which I needed to ask the instructor or professor used to be left I my mind only because I cannot ask questions from them due to lack of proper communication. Furthermore, the unavailability of support from the close ones was a drawback which I faced in studying abroad. In difficult times, I required help from family or friends, but they were many miles away from me. This thought made me lonely and confused in those times. Living independently on your own while studying is a difficult task. Also, the cultural differences were not so easy to understand. The people of US have an entirely different norms and customs for greeting, shaking hands, walking, talking, eating, and the manner of conversation. Coping up with the new culture and adapting it was a tough job as I have been living in Saudi Arabia since my childhood. The initial life studying abroad was not bed of roses as in the home country. Completing everyday tasks were not as easy as they used to be in the home country. At times, I was stuck in some social, academic, and financial problems; I missed the whole country and my closed ones.
On the other hand, the people of US are quite cooperative and have a helping attitude. I believe that if I was not accompanied by one of the classmates, I might have dropped the plan to study in US. This person is my classmate and was helpful at every difficult step. He helped me understand the language and provided me with his notes which were composed in an easy language in order to make me comprehend the lectures. In seminars and lectures, he used to sit beside me and conveyed the lecture and discussion to me. Consequently, I was able to understand more profoundly, and soon I was able to cope up with the language difference. Moreover, he enabled me to learn the customs, rules, norms, social traits and routine regulations of US culture. Learning the culture did not make me feel an outsider any longer. This person, used to involve me in conversation and talk about his family and friends. Subsequently, I felt less hesitated to communicate with him regarding my family and friends. With the passage of time, I felt less loneliness, and the reason behind it was the company of this person. He always encouraged me and motivated me for everything. This attitude provided me a base to trust myself, and I became more confident as I lost y confidence when I moved to US to study.
In conclusion, I like the new place and have tried and will strive to overcome the problems I faced in this time period. This confidence has been developed in me by the help of my classmate. Therefore, I am grateful to him.
