Disability Critical Thinkings Example
The amount of damage that toxins can do to our mental and physical health is a serious issue and I believe this needs to be observed closely. Harmful chemicals are all around us, such as the homes we live in, the food and water we consume, and the air we breathe (Gadea, 2014). I think that the discussion of these ten chemicals in this article help paint a brighter picture of how the exposure to them affects our bodies.
Many people know that lead is harmful, but not everyone might understand all of the damage it can do. This chemical can cause “behavioral, attention, and hearing problems, delayed physical growth, reduced sensations, and many other problems (Gadea, 2014). I agree that lead is extremely toxic and dangerous because of this. Items such as toys should also be monitored to ensure that they do not contain this deadly substance. There have been reductions in the amounts of recalls for children’s toys that contain lead, thanks to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (Grosser, Thompson, Davidowski,, & Moller, 2012).
There were many times that Gadea pointed out that the level of destruction this can do to children’s bodies is extremely high (2014). I think that in doing so, this helps us see that these chemicals not only make people sick, but they cause developmental problems. For example, chlorpyrifos and pesticides have been related to brain problems and neurodevelopmental problems in children up to seven years old (Gadea, 2014). I agree that the harsh chemicals discussed in this article should be labeled as toxins, and everyone needs to be aware of this information to avoid possible dangerous situations.
