The best practices in the context of culturally responsive pedagogy include the recognition of cultural capital and its three aspects (embodied, objectified and institutionalized), Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (CALPs), and Basic Interpersonal Communicative Skills (BICs). One of the characteristics of the embodied cultural capital is that it is adopted slowly and passively. Objectively cultural capital includes objects that represent a certain culture, for example monuments or places of importance of a specific culture. Institutional cultural capital is the most dominant as it represents places where academic recognition of a certain culture is achieved. CALPs relates to skills that are required in the academic learning of a certain subject that include listening, speaking, and writing. An individual needs between five and seven years in order to become proficient language speaker in a certain academic context. On the other hand, BICs include the language that is required for everyday situation in formal and informal communication.
It is important for every teacher to be aware of the cultural responsive practices. However, teachers frequently make culturally unaware mistakes. For example, teachers talk about culture as existed in the past without making a correlation with presence or refer to certain cultures with stereotyped opinion. It is important for every teacher to include cultural responsive practices in every subject. The best way to achieve this practice may include occasional hosting of guests from various cultures. The second example includes rising of awareness of cultural diversity. Third example of cultural responsive practice includes recognition and respect of every culture. This can be achieved through building workshops where children along with the teacher draw or make symbols of their culture. In this way, children are though at the same time to respect the diversity of cultures that exist and build a strong relationship with their peers and teacher as well.
Involving cultural responsive practices in every subject is important. In this way, learners can achieve better results and positive attitude towards school is created. This practice is good for learners because they learn how to praise differences and broaden their horizons. Every teacher should include some of the practices that promote cultural differences in and outside of the classroom.
