Some of the forecasted changes in work were quite surprising. To begin with, it was surprising to note that the recent changes and growth experienced in the world surpass the changes experienced in over ‘5,000 years’. It is also interesting to note just how big an impact these changes have on our work environment and how much they influence our career path. It is evident that one not only needs to map out a career path, but also put into consideration the changing work environment.
Notable is the need to specialize and not just have general knowledge in one’s field. This in essence means not just have extra academic credentials but also experience to match it. How much personal life will inform the working space and conditions is also a welcome surprise especially if employers can adapt and offer a working environment that also promotes the workers’ well-being. The demographic changes also mean that one will need to plan for a longer retirement period. Employers too might need to give retirement benefit plans that put into consideration the change in demographics.
I realize that with the need for use of advanced technology and globalization, as a sports manager, I would have to look into innovative ways of using and creating technology that would help advance sports. I would also need to keep up with emerging trends in sports and be open minded to embrace new ways of doing things. It would also be important to map out a way that my skills and services can fit into the global space. It would benefit my career to find ways of utilizing my skills across borders and also embracing what other developing economies have to offer in order to expand and remain relevant in the market place.
