Expression of emotions is an important element in the conflict. It is from this expression that interpersonal conflict is resolved. Conflicts occur in various forms, one of which is interpersonal conflict. Interpersonal conflict can be very destructive when not handled because it encompasses an interlock of varying emotions. As such, individuals have to express these emotions variously to annihilate any negative effects that could be a result of their conflict. For this reason, I have designed an action plan for myself to improve my expression of emotions. This action plan encompasses communication, focusing on positive elements and suppression.
Focusing on positive elements is the second item on my action plan. I believe that if I am to improve the expression of my emotions, this improvement will be a positive factor. For this reason, I have to focus on the positive aspects while expressing my emotions. Positive elements are likely to motivate. As such, this motivation becomes an elemental aspect in the improvement of the coming expression of emotion. Positive elements reduce the restraints in expressing emotions, which makes it easier to express emotions effectively depending on the nature of the underlying conflict. Positive elements encompass maintaining focus on only the possible advantageous aspects that could be results of a conflict. For instance, I would focus on achieving a win-win outcome in any conflict that I am involved, whether interpersonal or any other kind. I believe that most of the times I failed in conflict resolution were characterized by negative emotions being planted, which hindered me from managing my response.
The third item on my action plan of improving my expression of emotions is suppression. Whereas suppression solely encompasses bottling up my feelings by restraining my physical and verbal expression, I employ this item in weighing the risks of expressing my emotions. I understand that having both negative and positive feelings can be negative in its way. As such, I analyze the probable effects of expressing my emotions through self-evaluation. Instead of suppression being an agent of making me alienate myself from others, I make sure that I try to identify the effects that this alienation could have on my relations with others, thus affecting my conflict resolution with them. Suppression could be a devastating and disadvantaging tool. Nevertheless, I use this item to evaluate the probable risks of expressing my emotions in certain way. Through this evaluation, I improve my expression of emotions gradually.
