There are various aspects that affect the management of healthcare organizations today. According to Rovena Cosbie (2007), there is an increased population of the aged across the globe. Cosbie’s observation agrees with the CDC (2013) report whereby a projection indicates that the aged (>65 years) shall form about 20% of the USA population by 2030. The aged population requires an elaborate and intensive healthcare due to their vulnerability to a wide range of medical conditions. The old citizens face chronic disease and would, therefore, need all-time health care attention from qualified medical officers. The challenge is amplified by other related problems life an increase in the other population, rising cost of health care and reduced healthcare staff.
There are various to approaches to address the challenge of the aged population. First, there is an urgent need to place the elderly people under insurance to cater for the long-term need for healthcare services. With the increases in the cost of health are, the aged might find it difficult to pay their bills if they do not have insurance. It is worth noting the prolonged healthcare for the elderly leads to large amounts of money that can affect the family negatively. There is also a need to increase the number of formal healthcare providers. The rising demand for healthcare has led to informal healthcare facilities that need professional assistance. Increasing the number of nurses and doctors is inevitable if healthcare organizations shall have to provide the best services to the elderly. Investing in the prevention other than cure can help to reduce the rate of occurrences of diseases. Lastly, the current healthcare institutions must expand not only at an equivalent rate as the population of the aged, but also that of the nation.
