Essay On Changes In Family Dynamics
The birth of a child is always an exciting event for parents-to-be, whether they have children or not. However, the birth of first-born affects new parents the most. It can be easily proved by several arguments which become inevitable for nearly every parent or partners. First of all, the world of the new parents changes completely since newborns need a constant nursing. These newborn are fully dependent on their parents or on those people who take care of them. The new parents are now responsible for a new person and also for his/her safety, health and wellbeing. This could mean anxiety and are hard work for their part. Even experienced parents still go through the same sleepless nights and uneasiness for their child’s health and wellness like new parents.
The Mother
Baby-minding was and is thought to be women’s business; mostly, such perception is stereotypical one. Despite the development of modern society and the growing role of women participating in it, the birth of a child affects mothers considerably more than the fathers. It means that, very often, mothers can combine their jobs and every aspect which is connected with a baby. The mothers would often have to juggle taking care of the baby, work and household chores. Mothers would be more affected since they would be the main source of comfort and nourishment for the baby.
The Father
For fathers however, the majority of them tend to only realize themselves as parents when a child starts to walk and speak. When a baby is born, the father would be more protective since there is another being who would depend on him. He would also feel a greater need to provide for his family and would therefore cause him to work harder for his family.
The Extended family
The birth of a new member of a family can become something unexplored not only for parents, but also for siblings of the newborn. Even if siblings impatiently wait for one more brother or sister, it doesn’t mean they will then behave ideally towards a new member of the family. Oftentimes, when the sibling is young, he/she would be jealous of the baby since all the attention which was previously on him/her would be diverted to the baby. The sibling would then feel left out and could cause conflicts between each other. There are other siblings however who wants a new baby in the family. By having someone younger than him/her, the sibling could be very protective of his/her new brother/sister. In this relationship, the sibling would be close to each other and would oftentimes protect each other from harm.
The baby
Childbirth is a difficult process not only for women, but also for the babies themselves. When babies are born they are totally defenseless and are dependent on their parents for survival. Babies are innocent creature who cry when they need something and smile when they are happy. They bring joy to the people around them when they smile. The baby is like a blank slate wherein the things around him/her would define who he will be in the future. The environment in which he/she will grow up in would be a great factor in his whole upbringing. So, the more happiness and joy surrounding the child, the better it would be for his/her growth.
