“Ethics and ethical reasoning in business” This statement, my professional and personal chant, has inspired me to examine and analyze this chapter to come up with a concrete argument and thought relating to how it is perceived in business regarding my knowledge and experience. Based on my view, business Ethics can be demarcated as the critical, organized examination of how individuals and institutions ought to behave in the field of commerce. In precise, it involves examining suitable constraints on the quest of self-interest or profits for firms, when the activities of individuals or firms touch others. A distinct reason for examining ethical evaluation is that by being a superior organization, companies can employ people more effectively. Most individuals wish to work for a high-quality organization relative to a low-quality organization. Consumers prefer dealing with a reputable company, and businesses want to deal with other reputable organizations. It seems like a better way to go through life and do business hence making ethical evaluation very key in business fields “Firms maintain high ethical standards in how they conduct and monitor business operations.” (Mitchell 45). Ethical challenges occur in almost every business organization. Lack of integrity, conflict of interest and organizational problems are among some of the major reasons for unethical behaviors in business firms. When organization executives for instance lack integrity in how they operate their business, the employees do not show any fairness or honesty in their dealings. In fact, most of their financial deals are formed through intimidation, harassment, or lies. The atmosphere of every company should reflect a belief in handling customers with the maximum respect and honesty. A conflict of interest arises when an employee takes advantage of a corporate situation for personal benefit rather than the interest of the company. A common case in this scenario is the use of bribes or favors to embellish a business deal. Organizational relationship problems are those that stem from a company not having stated clear mission, objectives, and goals. Employees need to set the company's goals ahead of their personal agenda (McCormick et al., 302). Some of the managerial values that are influencing ethical decision-making are also key to scrutiny if at all a comprehensive account is to be established. According to my thought, managers should look at the data. For example, if the organization is opposed to discrimination grounded on gender or race, etc. One good thing to do every so often is to inspect the data to see who have been the finalists for jobs. That will confirm for managers if they have been making hiring decisions that are race and gender unbiased. For good ethical records therefore, the managerial staff should be at the forefront in setting morally upright qualities and being role models in their various business firms such as being persons with integrity, being able to delegate in a fair manner and having a clear vision for a given organization (McCormick et al., 303). In conclusion, Peoples’ spirituality also influences their ethical behavior in distinct ways. In eco-spirituality and Christian nonaggression, a cause incorporates the self and locates it within a broad framework of meaning. Certain actions are morally verboten because they would inform on the sense of self which has been shaped by spiritual convictions and practices. Moral thinking does not appear capable of creating personal characteristics. Philosophical ethics may have to be gratified to set certain outer limits of deed that will inevitably remain somewhat formal.
