Essay On Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have A Dream Reflection

Martin Luther King Jr. creates an image of a horrible environment in America in the perspective of Negros’ lives. He creates an image of total segregation whereby the blacks have no freedom to choose where to live and their leaders. He paints a clear picture of white supremacy that refuses to acknowledge the rights of the Negros as citizens of America. Further, he envisions a free society. Free from all sorts of oppression. He asserts that the free society must have equal rights for the Blacks and the Whites. The people of color cooperating with the whites in all aspect of life- in school, at home, and the children would hold hands and sing the freedom song (Martin Luther King Jr. 1963).
Although the primary goal for the Negros was to fight for their freedom, King’s speech went far beyond that. The speech advocates the freedom of all the American people. King states that he had a dream that America can hold to its creed; “that all men are created equal” (David J. Garrow, 2003). Further, he noted that if all people allowed freedom to ring from every corner, the children of God (the blacks and the white, Catholics and Protestants, Gentiles and Jews) shall join hands and sing the old Negro spiritual-free at last. From this perspective, it is evident that the speech cut across all the spheres of American lives as the constitution envisaged
The speech attracts others due to the fundamental issues raised. First, King appeals to the American dream that was of concern to many people at that time. In addition, he appeals to the constitutions of the country and the creed upon which the justice system ought to base their operation. He also raised issues that are out rightly not selfish, but those that can make the society better for all. He also advocated for non-violent approaches to solving problems (Murray Schumach, 1988).
