What combination therapy regimen are you posting about?
The combination that I will be posting about is R-CHOP.
Why is combination therapy appropriate for this patient’s treatment plan?
R-CHOP is one of the best treatment plans that can be followed. They take on cancer on different ways and they have a better chance of success. It is, therefore, more superior than other treatment plans that will take on the illness in only one way. If one way fails in R-CHOP a new way can still continue treating the patient.
How do monoclonal antibodies differ from chemotherapy?
A monoclonal antibody is a laboratory produced molecule that is introduced into the body so as to attach to defects in the cancer cells. They mimic the antibodies that are produced by the patient as part of their immune system. The immune system then responds to germs, vaccines and any other invaders in the patient’s body. On the other hand, chemotherapy is a treatment that is introduced in the body so that it can kill the cancer cells. It damages the cells completely to ensure that they do not reproduce or spread further into the body.
What are some important points to discuss with the patient regarding this therapy? Be sure to list 2-3 key teaching point for EACH agent in the regimen.
