Introduction

In numerous jurisdictions, sexual crime is a constitutional offense. Sexual offenders commit sexual crimes or sexual assaults such as child sexual abuse, statutory rape, incest, female genital mutilation, sexual imposition, and rape. Rape has been one of the common sexual assaults in history. The number of men sexual offenders has been high compared to that of women. There is a very long history of sexual assault of women by men (Hollin, 2004). The rising cases of sexual crimes around the world have raised controversial questions about the correctional system’s management and treatment of the sex offenders.
The treatment of sex offenders is primarily different from other therapies. It is a critical and encouraging process that centers on learning particular strategies for discontinuing abusive behavior, taking responsibility for the harm done, and being accountable. Ideally, sexual offenders should be treated to help them stop their evil acts. Cognitive-behavioral treatment is one of the most widely acknowledged models of treatment. The use of an explicit skills-based method of treatment would facilitate the change of behavior among the sexual offenders (Yates, 2013). The treatment of sexual offenders considerably decreases the future risk of the juveniles and adults who have committed sexual offenses sexually abusing females and children.
In the United States, there has essentially been a dramatic rise in the number of convicted sex offenders. The sex offender registration and notification laws mandate the release of information about the sexual offenders and helps in increasing the public safety (Scholle, 2000). Thus, sex offender registration help the criminal justice professionals keep the track of activities and residence of sexual offenders. In my opinion, the registration of sex offenders helps in informing the public about the presence of sexual offenders within the community and, as a result, this enables the public to take the necessary protection actions. Additionally, sex offender registration helps in reducing sex crimes as the public report the wary behavior by the sexual offenders to the government authorities.
