Traditional and Industrial Farming
Production of food has been one of the major issues in the food production in the modern times. Traditional farming is the major method in the past. It is the used of organic materials in the production method and it is characterized by community or small production. Industrial farming is the large agricultural production of goods and products which is characterized by industrial production scale (Kavanough, 2007).
Food production shifted from traditional farming to industrial farming. Over 50 years, there have been many changes about the production of food. Organic foods are replaced by industrially produced goods or foods (Kavanough, 2007). There are many factors that are changed in the food production such as production method as well as the ingredients itself. I think the method they are using in the modern times is unnecessary since it could result to the damages to the environment. Even if the food production is shifting towards the benefits of the many, the consequences of shifting from traditional to industrial farming is very large (Kavanough, 2007).
I also believe that people have the right to know what they are consuming especially what they are eating. One of the major manufacturers of food in the United States is the Kraft Food Groups, Inc (Kavanough, 2007). One of their major products is the Shake N’ Bake which has the ingredients such as Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Salt, Cottonseed oil, Paprika, Dextrose, Onions, Spice, Caramel color, Yeats, Annatto, Maltodextrin, citric acid, vinegar, sodium silicoaluminate, mustard seed, and sugar. In the ingredients, I am not familiar with the maltodextrin and the silicoaluminate. The ingredients could be used for introducing many tastes for the product.
Food quality has been reducing nowadays. People are not aware of the ingredients of their food. Due to the large scale production, there are many alternations and changes to the food quality (Kavanough, 2007).
