Evaluating Research On Aloe Vera Research Paper Example
Introduction
Scientists and researchers have in the recent past classified Aloe Vera as one of the essential herbal medicines. This is as a result of its renowned wound healing effects especially on burn injuries. Research indicates that Aloe Vera has been in use for over 5000- years now where it was mainly used by the traditional Chinese people as well as the Egyptians. Since then, it has achieved a strong reputation not only in the medicinal industry but also in the cosmetic industry where it’s used to treat cell aging and burns. This paper is going to evaluate research conducted on Aloe Vera using Eshghi’s article under the hypothesis that applying aloe cream to posthemorrhoidectomy reduces pain and healing time.
Effects of Applying Aloe Vera Cream to Posthemorrhoidectomy
According to the research, significant pain relief was provided through the application of Aloe Vera Cream. This was experienced in a 48 hours post open hemorrhoidectomy. Moreover, a remarkable wound healing as a result of the application of Aloe Vera was observed within a period of 14 post surgery. The usual lower algesic consumption demonstrated by the Aloe cream group unlike the Placebo group explains the reason for the improved pain management after a hemorrhoidectomy was conducted.
Effects of Applying Aloe Vera Cream to Post Operative After Surgery
The research further explained the mechanism by which aloe cream significantly assisted in wound healing posthemorrhoidectomy. Aloe has anti inflammatory effects that go a long way to reducing and eliminate postoperative pain in patients who use it. This principle is substantiated by the opinion that the main causes of pain in patients especially during early post surgery time are inflammation. Moreover, Aloe was found to posses’ antimicrobial effect as a result of its constituents such as aloe-emodin and anthraquinones which are responsible for the reduction of pain and facilitation of wound healing.
Discovery Claimed: Aloe Cream Reduces Pain and Healing Time
This discovery was made after research which involved 49 patients who had all undergone hemorrhoidectomy. Out of the 49, 24 patients received aloe cream while 25 patients received placebo cream. Both groups were similar in all aspects including gender and age to avoid variations caused by external factors. Pain scores for the Aloe group were slightly below or above 9.29 while those of the placebo group were slightly below or above 9.24. With time, it was discovered that patients with Aloe group experienced a remarkable pain relief at intervals of 12, 24, 48 and two weeks post surgery. Moreover, despite lacking significant difference in 2 and 4 weeks, patients who utilized aloe cream had noteworthy lower pain on defecation between twenty four and forty eight hours post hemorrhoidectomy.
Based on this, it was evident that Aloe cream was an essential component in the facilitation of healing in patients at two weeks post surgery. This was supported by the observation that patients in the aloe group exhibited grade III wound healing which was accompanied by epithelial covering. Patients who were categorized in the placebo group on the other hand demonstrated grade I and II healing after fourteen days. This is the compelling evidence that wins my support to the research.
My Opinion of the Study and Its Limitations
The study was very informative and detailed. However, there were some major limitations that I am of the opinion that prevented the research from achieving even higher top notch results. One of the major limitations was the gender used. The research used 16 females for the aloe group and 14 females for the placebo group. I think it would have been of great importance to mix the genders. After conducting a detailed research, the author concluded that Aloe Vera cream is responsible for decreasing postoperative pain and pain on defecation as compared to placebo. I totally agree with this conclusion since it is fully based and proven by the research and it is evident that the anti inflammatory effects of Aloe Vera are responsible for the reduction and elimination of postoperative pain in patients.
