Agent Analysis

The agency’s mission statement and goal
The agency’s mission statement is to be the leader in ending homelessness in the community. While their goal is to help people, find their way back home (Ms, 2012).

The services provided by the agency.

The agency provides family redirection shelter for the homeless men, women as well as children living in orange county (Ms, 2012). For example, through their family redirection emergency shelter, the agency provides 100 beds each night for the groups of people named above.

How the client’s needs determined and the means criteria

Several eligibility issues are considered in determining a client’s needs. Such include a proof of the client’s level of household income, their non-assessable income and assets, proof of disability, medical or permanent injury expenses, proof of income eligibility limits or a proof of emergency housing needs (Ms, 2012).

The criteria to be a client in the program

The eligibility criteria for the mercy house programs include a person aged 65 years or 50 years. The main clients are the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islanders. These are some of the people living in the community, facing hardships in performance of normal daily tasks, risk of admission to residential care center or risk of premature mental disability for a young person (Ms, 2012).

The organizational structure of the agency

The mercy house corps is an NGO that was incorporated in 2004 as a conflict management group. The organization later incorporated NteAid as a means of expanding their youth engagement and were among the first organization to join IT none profit NetHope (Ms, 2012). It has it head office in Portland, at the mercy center.

My volunteer activities

In my voluntary work, I serve in the accommodation sector in the organization. My duties entail collecting blankets as well as cleaning them after the clients exit the shelter. In addition, I also help in collecting cleaning and replacing sleeping mats in the storage. Later in the day I undertake different cleaning chores such as collecting the trash outside the church and rightfully placing them in the waste bin.

How my volunteer service activities relate to the mission and goals

Yes; the mission of the organization is to provide holistic as well as integrated care for the frail aged as well as people with disabilities and one of the most basic services in a home care is the accommodation services. Thus every time a client smile from the experience of our accommodation after a good night’s sleep I feel part of the organization.

My overall impression of the agency

My overall impression of the organization is very positive. First the organization has been able to respond directly to the needs of diverse and high number of clients without discrimination. However, it has also faced challenges in that specific services have led to the definition of the eligibility criteria and geographical boundaries based on the funding sources.

Do the clients appear to be satisfied with the services?

Yes. In most cases our client as satisfied and give positive testimonies and feedback. However, at times some feel that we do not meet their expectation. However, this is expected given that even the mental condition of the client’s needs help.

If I needed services at this agency would I want to apply?

In my opinion, I always wish to serve in the organization. The organization can help me improve my skills and understanding of the needs of the marginalized in the society.

How the agency can improve their services

Through improved and more aggressive fund raising as well as the inclusion of the different state social service agencies in the programs of the organization, the organization can be able to greatly and significantly improve their service delivery. Effective and better service deliver can only be done through improved flow of funds. They also need to encourage volunteerism among the locals to enhance community participation and use of the locally available human capital.
