Airports, as components of infrastructure, are unique when compared to other forms of transportation. As such, airports allow the global and regional connection, which has greatly influenced economic and urban growth in various countries. The connection between economic growth and airports yields significant facets that propel the growth (In Hartmann et al, 2014). They include agglomerate economics, transportation, and public finance. Economic growth often relates to infrastructural development. As such, it implies that airports typically fuel the growth of the economies of the adjacent localities.
Transportation influences the growth of metropolises, with air transport playing a crucial role in the long and short distance travels. Businesses heavily rely on the capability of transporting supplies. Thus, air travel facilitates business interactions between various urban centres, which translate in their growth. Similarly, urban centres are always affected by congestion and increase in oil pricing. Air travel and airports solve such issues by offering alternative means of transportation, which are unaffected by congestion (Yigitcanlar, 2010).
