How should the Islamic State be founded? This seems to be the major question that was answered by Sayyid Abul A’la Maududi in “The Political Theory of Islam.” According to Maududi there are two basic points that needs to be acknowledged in order to establish the Islamic State. The first is that the prophets’ main responsibility and work is to preach Islam. The second is that no one, even the prophets should claim to be Ilab and Rabb. The Third is that Only Allah is United and Sovereign, which means that he only has the right to impose Ilab and Rabb among the peoples of this earth. These three basic points, according to Maududi, will eradicate poverty, tyranny, and sufferings. It meant that true progress can only be achieved through the preaching and acceptance of Islam.
Pondering upon the points aforementioned, I came to ask the question: if the prophets have been gone for many centuries now, then who will carry-on the work preaching Islam to establish the Islamic State. There are groups at present that are trying to establish an Islamic State and the efforts are causing too much human sufferings too. Take the efforts of ISIS as example. In the group’s attempt to establish an Islamic State, they are causing harm to thousands of people. And if the prophets are all gone, who has the right to interpret the words in the holy Qur’an? How can we make sure the interpretations are correct, that the interpreters are not gaining power unto themselves? While the entire article was effective in explaining how the Islamic State must derive its laws and rules, it failed to explain in detail how can we push for its establishment.
