Example Of Case Study On Demographics AND Resources For A Community Need Organization

Introduction

This paper aims to assess the demographics and resources that are available in River Bend City, particularly in the Ruby Lake neighborhood, where a non-profit organization named Fuerza y Unidad aims to make their organization operational and more productive in terms of helping the community.

Available Demographics and Community Resources

I t can be inferred from the case study that majority of the community’s population consists of adults or young adults. The community population also consists of Latinos (“Introduction: Welcome to Riverbend City,” n.d.). They are mostly Catholics and have various professional backgrounds.
As for the community resources, the main resource would be the human resources. The community has many members who are willing to participate in the organization’s various initiatives. These human resources and expertise can also be seen among the board members. In particular, the board members consist of a language line interpreter, an elementary school teacher, a chief nursing officer, a priest, a community activist, and a city resident, which means that almost every sector of the community is represented. This means that the organization will be better able to develop holistic community initiatives. As well, the board members have various connections both in and out of the community. These connections can serve as further resource for the organization as they can provide the organization with feedback and input on getting started. As well, these connections include other non-profit organization with whom they can possibly collaborate in the future. In this regard, the most effective resources would be the human resources, along with the knowledge, competencies, and expertise that they bring. Especially at this stage of the organization where they are still starting, the knowledge and skills that the human resources have are most valuable for putting the organization together. At his stage, most of the work that needs to be done involves the creation of an origination charter, the mission/vision statement, the by-laws, the organizational structure, and the strategic plan. These do not require financial or physical resources as much as they require the knowledge and skills of the board members.

Purpose of the Community Organization

The purpose of the community organization should be to help community members find and obtain the resources they need. As Eduardo Alvarez pointed out, there are already many organizations in the community that provide various kinds of services but that they are not well organized. In this regard, rather than potentially providing duplicate services, what Fuerza yUnidad can do is serve as a single and focal source of information for community members who are seeking specific types of resources. This will enable Fuerza to make the most of its resources, that is, its human resources, as well as its connections. Not only will this benefit the community members in that the organization can help them easily find what they need; they will also help the other organizations achieve their objectives in that Fuerza will help these other organizations become more accessible to the community members,. In addition, these connections will enable the board members of Fuerza to be exposed to the operations of other NGOs, enabling them to apply this learning to their own organization. As Axner (2014) pointed out, community problems can become complicated and difficult to solve, but if groups of people work together then these problems become easier to deal with. As well, by offering this type of service, Fuerza’s operations is ensured sustainability as there will always be people who are seeking resources and there’s also always bound to be someone who is offering these resources.
