It is true that Kent state shooting had great impacts on the American politics in those days. Many Americans were not supporting active participation of the US military in the Vietnam movement. They felt that president Nixon had betrayed them by sending more troops into Cambodia especially when the war coming to an end. The government response to the students’ demonstration worsened the situation as more people oppose the killing of those students. The response also led to the rise of anti-Vietnam movement that criticized the intention of the government to send its troop in Vietnam. The Kent state shooting also made the government of president Nixon unpopular resulting to poor performance in the next general election.
I concur also with the author that the women’s right movements have created controversies over the years in their quest to fight for women rights. Before the enactment of equality of right in 1948, the position of women in American society was to low compared to that of men. By then, most of the women used to do domestic duties and it was believed that their place is at the kitchen. Only a small portion of women used to attend formal school in those days translating to less 20% of total working population. However, women rights movements were formed in the middle of 19th century and they started advocating for women rights. They focused on enactment of legislations that equated women with men. They started enrolling in institutions of higher learning, taking part in elective politics, seeking competitive jobs, among other things that were viewed as very controversial in those days.
