Research on Artificial Intelligence is based on creating a machine (computer) that would be able to think for itself. However, this intelligence will not be similar to those of human. It can be hundred times more effective. When we are talking about the technology that directly connects the human brain to a computer, in this case the human brain is the source of intelligence while the computer is just a tool for its successful implementation.
Taking into care the rate of computer technology advancement, both of those researches are quite realistic. However, even though the technology that directly connects the human brain to a computer is very complicated, the research on artificial intelligence is far more complicated. As a result, the technology that directly connects the human brain to a computer is more realistic for now. It requires less time for its implementation than it is required for artificial intelligence. Furthermore, this idea already has its positive results, but still, it is not a global level on which it is planned to be.
Both of those researches are very perspective. The implementation of each of them would give the chance to solve many important problems. But none of them can be highlighted as the most important – they have the same level of importance.
If talking about, what should be studied in the first place - it is also hard to say, because they both are important and they both need to be considered. However, having analyzed them both, I assume that the scientific research on the technology that directly connects the human brain to a computer should be done in the first place. It is because, in some way, it can be an essential step, which data and information can help with achieving the artificial intelligence project. And successful realization of the first one can help with the successful realization of the second one, taking less time for the research and more important information to analyze.
