Family planning is a personal issue. Expecting the government to formulate harsh laws for safeguarding quality of life for future generations; sound absolutely absurd. But, these sorts of controversies are rampant in the United States, as there are families that have more than five kids and are heavily dependent upon the government’s aid. It is understandable that under dire circumstances pertaining to health or education, government assistance is highly desired. But, delivering babies without any financial stability of the parents is not acceptable. Families should have the liberty to have as many children as they wish. The only requirement is that they must be capable of taking care of their children. Instigating the government to enforce population policies is baseless and wastage of the government’s time. Ensuring quality lifestyle is a variable factor owing to the sustenance of diverse cultural and religious groups in the US. Individual lifestyle is also driven by personal choices. China’s one-child policy has reduced population growth, but, it has adversely affected gender balance, and created serious health and educational obstructions.
According to the US Department of State, the United States is no communist regime that the government will impose fines and punishment for having more than two children. The objective of US international population policy is to encourage healthy populations by endorsing sexual and reproductive health, and reproductive entitlements. Family planning is a voluntary action that promotes women empowerment and their ability to decide for individual well-being. The US government does not encourage population stability or restriction. A perfect family size depends upon the eagerness of the couple and not the government. The US government strictly criticizes and opposes forceful population policies. The US advocates for the Program of Action of the International Commission on Population and Development (ICPD). This programme was approved by 179 governments in 1994 in Cairo. It emphasized human rights stating that couples and individuals have the right to decide liberally and responsibly the number and timing of their children. Voluntary family planning has significant health and socio-economic advantages. It decreases child and maternal mortality rate, abortion and develops independent women (US Department of State).
