Marion Soards is a predestined Minister in the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. This essay seeks to examine the primary ideas in the book of Romans relative to Marion Soards book. The aspect of salvation forms the epicenter of this essay. In addition, Luther’s justification b y faith will be contrasted with Soards’ belief.
Essentially, Soards asserts that there is a relationship, which exists between the righteousness of God and salvation since they are outcomes of the power of God. This follows Paul’s speech on the revelation of God’s righteousness in the gospel, which he offers a definition as “the power of God unto the salvation of all who believe”. On a similar note, Soards (103), argues that Paul’s use of apocalyptic thoughts such as “from faith unto faith” implies that faith itself is a product of salvation, which is effected by Gods’ saving power (Marion, 104). It is imperative to note that, Soards believes that faith, salvation and the power of Good ca not exist individually, and instead they share a relationship whose root is salvation.
According to Marion (105), Paul’s explanation of the relationship between the law and sin does not mean that his verses to the church of Corinth should be used to prove the extent of sinful nature of humanity. Instead, the essence that Paul wanted to derive to the followers of Christianity is that all humanity stands equally guilty of sin before the presence of God. Soards agrees with most of the Paul’s sentiments to the church of Corinth and he encourages the Christians to understand the essence of the power of God in saving humanity (Marion, 104).
On the other hand, Luther believes that faith alone makes an individual just and enhances fulfillment of God’s commandments.
