Most certainly, the StrengthsQuest training class is a good class to take since people need to know more about themselves and try to build up their strengths for using them to their advantage. The process of learning about yourself is hard and can be confusing at times, even if friends tell you in detail about yourself. Most people will either agree or disagree with their friends and may remain confused. Thus, taking the StrengthsQuest test to know and understand one’s strengths is essential.
After taking the StrengthsQuest test, I found out that adaptability is my number one strength. As for my second strength, it is individualization. The third is communication and the fourth is deliberative. Last and the fifth is harmony. I got to know and understand that adaptability means that I am highly adaptable to different situations. I am a go with the flow person and I honestly think that I really am a person who will accept whatever is coming my way and deal with it. From the presentation, I knew more information on how to use my strengths to my advantage and how to express them professionally.
When I recently talked to my advisor, she told me that I will enjoy studying and working if I use my strengths to my advantage and mold them to advance my career goals and objectives. Being a George Mason student has made me more aware of what people are like from other cultures, accept them for what they are, know their personalities, and try to get along with them. I was very surprised about is my communication strength, for I never knew that I am a good communicator and I always thought that I am more of a quiet person and socially awkward. However, my friends and family examined my top five strengths and they told me that the assessment of the test is accurate. One of my friends has always told me that I could be an excellent lawyer since I am a god debater and know my way around words. I have always believed this specific friend and we has been friends for more than 10 years. Thus, I can trust whatever she tells me.
During my tenure thus far at George Mason, I noticed that I am already using my strengths. I accept people for who they are and want to get to know them well. I like peace and harmony from friendships and connections. I was surprised that deliberative is not my number one strength. I always thought that I easily anticipate and expect obstacles. My friends and family have always knew that I kind of have a six sense of anticipating things and that is why they come to me for advice. I help them according to the situation and the kind of trouble. I do not know if and how my strengths help improve my school work. I am the type of person who will take whatever is coming my way and just deal with it professionally.
Aside from the top five strengths, my other strengths are also very important. I always love to build relationships with people and believe that it is very important to have good relationships in life. My friends always tell me that I am the glue to their friendship. When I went back to Saudi Arabia to visit for a month, they told me that their relationship with each other was distant as everyone got busy and never got to see other. They have no means of communication with each other and that is why they knew that I am always the one to keep our friendship intact. My friends appreciated that very much. Lastly, I got influence as my 7th strength. I knew that I have many opinions and like to advice people to change their minds when needed. However, knowing that I can influence people is a good strength to have, for it can benefit me in the future. I may change my mind later in life and become a lawyer or a business woman. Knowledgeable people in that field told me it is very important to know how to communicate and influence a consumer or a client.
Having learned what strengths I have, I believe, will make me focus on them and be a better and stronger person than I already am. I am proud to be who I am and would like to thank my parents for raising me to be a better person and appreciate what I can do and have in life. It is important to appreciate what you have and develop it to have a successful life.
